Murphysboro Blues Festival - 2004 BluesFest Tentative Date Scheduled

The Murphysboro Blues Festival is tentatively scheduled for the 6th and/or 7th of August. This heavily rests on the progress of receiving Donations, Sponsors, Community support, but mostly with raising enough money.

Alot of people have been wondering why the Blues Festival is expericing financial issues and why was the event duration switched to two days from the original single day event. To give you a little background, in order to have vendors & merchants come to setup at the Blues Festival, they are charged a fee to do so. The fee amount made more sense if they could be setup for two days instead of one. Also for those Blues Lovers who like to travel state and even coutry-wide to attend Blues Festivals, most attendees prefer to make a weekend out of it and felt that a 2 day festival validated the reason to travel so far for an event.

Due to the lack of financial support, affordable talent has become more sparse to get the top names in the Blues. In order to have better talent and performers that everyone has heard about, it requires a significant amount of money. The bottom line for running the blues festival can cost anywhere from $15,000 to $20,000. When this money comes directly from the pocket of the coordinator, this proves to be more difficult in obtaining higher quality talent. Essentially, the more funds that are available that are not out of pocket, the better chances there are to hire better talent. We sincerely thank those who HAVE supported the blue festival.
